However, given how wellreceived the first movie was, there is a good chance that we will see Coraline 2 on screens soon.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, both director Neil Gaiman and star Craig Roberts are in negotiations to return for the sequel. This news follows earlier reports that H.P. Lovecraft author Rian Johnson would write the screenplay for Coraline 2.
Storyline
Details about the storyline for Coraline 2 are still being worked out, but it is likely that we will see more of our hero – Coraline – as she tries to uncover her past and solve the mysteries of her family. Given that Gaiman originally wrote the story with an adult audience in mind, it is likely that some elements of the plot will be more mature than in the first movie.

After a successful run in 2009, director Henry Selick is returning to the world of Coraline with a brand new film. The movie is scheduled to be released on February 5th, 2015 and will be available on digital platforms first. Fans of the original may be pleased to learn that the story remains largely unchanged; following Coraline as she enters a parallel world full of danger and surprises. The cast includes Dakota Fanning, Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel who are all reprising their roles from the previous film. As for other details about the plot or release date, we can’t say too much at this stage! Keep an eye out for more announcements from Selick and his team soon though!

When it comes to casting for a sequel, it can be hard to please everyone. However, with the cast for Coraline, it seems as though creator Neil Gaiman and director Henry Selick hit a home run. Here’s who will be returning for the follow-up:
Neil Gaiman himself is back as writer and director. This is great news, as he was one of the few people on board from the beginning. Selick also returns as director, which is definitely reassuring given his previous work on the film. The only new addition to the cast is Olivia Cooke ( waivers ), who plays Coraline’s friend Susan. She’s joined by Christopher Lloyd (TV’s “Back to the Future”) as Dr. Brodsky, along with David Bowie (Blackstar) playing the voice of an unnamed character known only as “the hat”.
Other returning actors include Dave McKean (Watchmen), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), and my favorite person in the world, Catherine O’Hara (Dead Poet’s Society). I’m incredibly excited to see how she’ll portray Mrs. Peachum this time around! Other familiar faces include Allison Williams (Girls) and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live).
So far so good! But what about story? Well according to Neil Gaiman, there won’t be much change from the original script… at least not that we know

In the upcoming sequel, Coraline 2: The Return, her world is turned upside down as she journeys back down into the basement in order to save her mother from an evil force that has taken over their home. Along the way, she meets new friends and must outwit an ever-growing number of obstacles before time runs out.
According to director Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas), “Coraline 2” will be darker and more sinister than its predecessor. The movie is set for release on October 6th of this year and it stars actors Dakota Fanning (Shutter Island) and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind).
