The City of Oakland, California, will be hosting the 2023 LORAN-C AGE World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-2023). The conference will be held from July 20 to 24, and will be the premier international event for the radiocommunication community.

LoraNoCarter+Oakland is a non-profit, community-based organization that works to build peace and justice in Oakland, California. We believe that all people have the right to live in a safe and just society. We work to create this society through education, organizing, and direct action.
LoraNoCarter+Oakland was founded in 2012 in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting. We are named after two young men who were killed by gun violence in Oakland – Lovelle Mixon and Oscar Grant. We are a part of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
We work to end gun violence, police brutality, and mass incarceration. We also work to create opportunities for young people, support Oakland’s public schools, and build power in our communities.
LoraNoCarter+Oakland is made up of Oakland residents, parents, students, teachers, clergy, and concerned citizens. We are building a movement for peace and justice in Oakland – one that is led by Oaklanders, for Oaklanders.
2. The History of loranocarter+oakland 2023
LORANOCARTER+OAKLAND is a proposed new city in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The city would be located on the former Oakland Army Base and Oakland Point, on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay.
LORANOCARTER+OAKLAND is being proposed by a group of Oakland business, civic, and community leaders, including developer and Oakland A’s co-owner John Fisher, who have formed the Oakland City Promoter LLC. The group’s goal is to create a new, sustainable, mixed-use city that would provide jobs, housing, and recreation, while also serving as a regional hub for technology, manufacturing, and logistics.
The Oakland Army Base was closed in 1999 and has since been redeveloped into a mixed-use commercial and industrial center. The Oakland Point site is currently undeveloped. The LORANOCARTER+OAKLAND proposal would build on the existing development at the Oakland Army Base, and create a new mixed-use neighborhood at Oakland Point.
The proposed city would include up to 12,000 homes, 4 million square feet of commercial and industrial space, a marina, parks, and open space. The city would be served by a new ferry terminal, and would be connected to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system.
The Oakland City Promoter LLC is currently working with the City of Oakland and other stakeholders to secure the necessary approvals and funding to move forward with the project. If all goes according to plan, construction could begin as early as 2020, with the first phase of the project expected to be completed by 2023.
